Guidance, at a glance.

Piece size, species, dryness and airflow all affect a fire. These example sizes are comparisons, not measured dimensions or weights of the photographed stock.

Small pieces help a fire catch; larger pieces generally burn more slowly under comparable conditions. More pieces together can also make a hotter fire, so duration does not simply scale with piece count.

Allow time for the coals.

Infiniti Fires gives a typical 40–60 minute preparation allowance for wood or charcoal braais. This is a general guide, not a test of this wood or a cooking timer.

Judge the coal bed and follow your braai’s instructions before cooking. Larger pieces, wind and moisture can change the wait.

How the example works.

Estimated fuel duration = pieces × assumed weight ÷ assumed fuel use. Defaults are 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 kg for small / medium / large pieces, at 3 kg per hour. These are illustrative inputs, not measured Shisa Stack results or a recommended loading rate.

The result assumes a steady rate. It is not cooking time, safe cooling time or a guaranteed burn. Follow your appliance’s fuel limits; ask the team to confirm the wood for your intended use.

A few familiar examples.

  • Starting the fire: smaller dry splits help establish the flame before adding larger pieces.
  • Wors, chops or braaibroodjies: prepare a coal bed and adjust the heat for the food, rather than cooking over large flames.
  • A longer gathering: plan additional fuel for replenishing the fire. Three pieces are an illustration, not a full-meal quantity recommendation.

Ask us to confirm an untreated, suitable species and seasoned condition for cooking. Dryness cannot be verified from a photo.
